Which genres actually shine on mobile

Which genres actually shine on mobile

Not every genre translates well to a touchscreen, and pretending otherwise wastes everyone's time. Some play to the format's strengths, others struggle against it.

Puzzle, strategy and turn-based RPGs are naturals. They don't need twitch precision, they pause well, and they fit the stop-and-start rhythm of phone play. You can put them down mid-thought and pick them up on the next train.

Arcade games and simple racers also work, as long as the controls are tight. Big Rush Luck is a good example of a genre made for short bursts on a screen.

The tricky ones are anything demanding two joysticks and fast aiming. Shooters can be done, but the controls always feel like a compromise. If you love a genre that fights the format, a controller helps a lot.

Our advice: match the genre to how you actually play. A commuter wants something pausable; someone gaming at home can push into heavier stuff.
